Frequently Asked Questions:
What is a personal development coach? Is it like a life coach?
My coaching method is different than a life coach. I unabashedly address issues related to spirit and divine purpose. I rely on my intuition as well as my academic training. I talk a lot about the soul and how to allow your Essential Self to be your guide in this life journey. At times, the themes we encounter are very metaphysical in nature. I “go there” in ways a typical life coach may not. I also work with people on issues related to ancestry. Just like a life coach, though, I will give you tools and techniques to help you cultivate your Essential Self in your daily life.
How do I know if I need your services?
Well, I would say something brought you to this site. That same something is telling you to give this more than a cursory glance. Follow your intuition. You can also contact me for a free 30 minute consultation where you can ask me all the questions. 🙂
Why six weeks, and do I have to do all six?
Let’s say you have knee surgery and need physical therapy after. Would you go to your physical therapist and say, “Do I actually need 6 weeks of therapy on this knee that has just experienced tremendous trauma? I’d like to do just 2 weeks please”? No, of course not. Some things take time. There are no shortcuts to true healing. My coaching model is very intentional. Each week we work on something different and we give ourselves the week to incorporate this new learning. There is a rhythm to this process that must not be disturbed.
I’ve had a million years of therapy, how is this different?
You may recognize some techniques from therapy, depending on the type of talk therapy you’ve had. At times it may feel very much like therapy, but my model is different in that there is a start point and an end point. I also very much incorporate spiritual concepts and techniques. I want to make clear that I am not a therapist, I am a personal development coach. You will come see me for a specific issue (which may or may not be the underlying issue), and we work to resolve this by tapping into your essential self. There is very much an end goal. And, I’ve never had to see anyone more than the six weeks I ask for. Once you discover who you really are, no one can take that away from you—you walk through life with a newfound confidence and renewed (or remembered) purpose. It then becomes a simple matter of practicing being who you are in every moment.
I’m not really into all this woo-woo stuff. Is this woo-woo?
LOL. Ok, people don’t actually ask this out loud, but I feel this question often. No, it’s not woo-woo (at least I don’t think so.) I have a Master’s degree and I study at Stanford University’s CCARE (Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education). I also come from a long line of traditional African healers. My intention is to combine the gifts and knowledge handed down to me through my ancestors with the Western knowledge I have earned to create something unique and beautiful. A lot of the concepts I use come from Jungian psychology, which, as it turns out, is not that different from ancient African wisdom. I also use a lot meditation techniques as well as intellectual concepts.
I’d love, love, love, to do this, but I really cannot afford your rate right now.
This is my work, but it is also my purpose. I will not turn down anyone who is ready/willing to take this journey. Don’t let the money stop or scare you. Call me.
